SELECTION OF FIN MATERIAL:
Aluminium was selected for rectangular, triangular and inverse parabolic as
fin material in this Project work for several reasons. The thermal conductivity
of aluminium is very high (K=204W/mK), thus a large amount of heat is transferred
through aluminium metal.Aluminium is also light and soft metal and available
in work shop.
CASTING TERMS:
Casting:
Casting is the process of pouring molten metal into a
Mold and allowing it to solidify. When solidified, the desired
Metal object is taken from the refractory mold apart. The
Solidified object is called Casting.
The Casting process contains the following terms:-
Pattern:
Pattern is the replica of the final object to be made with some modifications.
The mold cavity is made with the help of the pattern.
Flask:
A molding flask is one which holds the sand mold intact.
Drag:
A drag is the lower molding flask.
Cope:
A cope is the upper molding flask.
Bottom board:
This is a board normally made of wood which is used at the start of mold making.
Molding sand:
It is the freshly prepared refractory material used for making mold cavity.
Gate:
The actual entry point through which molten metal enters mold cavity.
Riser:
It is a reservoir of molten metal provided in the casting so that hot metal
can flow back into the mold cavity when there is a reduction in volume of metal
due to solidification.
Runner:
The passage ways in the parting plane through when molten metal flow was regulated
before they reach the mold cavity
